Materials Evaluation
Why it’s best practice to evaluate the application and the material.

Each substrate on any part to be overmoulded has its own specific attributes. Teflon, for example; fundamentally resists adhesion. However, other materials like nylon, abs or polypropylene all have varying degrees of adhesion compatibility.
Whatever the characteristics of the substrate, there is always a Henkel Technomelt® product to suit it. PCBs in GR4 or G10 are different from flexi-circuits so the application needs to be understood in order to specify the most suitable product.
Along with this application analysis, the environmental requirements such as heat and chemical resistance need to be known in order to identify the correct specific Technomelt variant. Once these parameters are known, by using the Overmould application check list above, then the evaluation of the overmoulding can begin.
Which materials to avoid!
What materials won’t work in a hot-melt low pressure moulding application

Plastics that are not polyamides become troublesome in hot-melt low pressure moulding applications. Henkel Technomelt® have been specifically designed and formulated to provide the right viscosity at the correct operating temperatures for Low Pressure Moulding (LPM).
Most plastics used in injection moulding with High Pressure Machines cannot be used in LPM due to the extremely high viscosities that need high pressures to force the material into the mould tool cavity.
