Dave Morris, Managing Director of Overmould, the leading UK expert in Low Pressure Overmoulding and sensitive electronics encapsulation, spent a night under the stars at Bletchley Campus, Milton Keynes College as part of the CEO Sleepout–a nationwide effort to combat homelessness and poverty.
For one night, Morris traded the comforts of home for a sleeping bag, joining business leaders and community figures in an event that highlights the stark realities faced by those living without a roof over their heads.
CEO Sleepout is a UK-wide initiative uniting business leaders, executives, and teams to tackle homelessness by spending a night under the stars with just a sleeping bag–raising vital funds and awareness. Participants pledge to raise or donate £1,000, with proceeds supporting local charities that provide essential services. The event isn’t just about raising funds; it serves as a chance to hear directly from those affected and to reflect on the growing issue of homelessness and poverty across the UK.
Dave’s fundraising efforts have been nothing short of inspiring. With an original goal of £1,000, he has so far raised £1,985 in donations for this important cause. Every pound raised contributes directly to providing resources, shelter, and support for those most in need. Reflecting on the experience, he said:
“As a trustee of the homeless shelter – UnityMK I have a first hand understanding of how ordinary people can fall into homelessness, often through no direct fault of their own. Once “down and out” with no address, they are unable to get a bank account and without that they cannot work. This is where the charity shines. People are helped back into society, able to share and contribute. I did the CEO Sleepout to see what it’s like to sleep out on hard pavement, on a cold November night, with just a sleeping bag. Not nice for a successful business man!
In doing so, those who donated, raised money for helping homeless people out of the pit they have fallen into and providing the initial shelter to help them to get back on their feet.
So remember that for some, a warm bed and a room to sleep safely in, is a luxury and it isn’t impossible to help them return to be participating members of society. The love and the kindness, as well as the generosity of the few enable the world to be a better place.”
The funds raised through CEO Sleepout events go directly to local charities offering critical resources, support and shelter to those in need.
