Waterproofing electronic PCBs

How to waterproof electronics

A whole range of possibilities

The Low Pressure Overmoulding process is a proven method of sealing products (whether electronic or not) that can protect against moisture ingress, submersion in water, exposure to dust and more. The real speciality is this process covers all without the high injection/cavity pressure required that is traditional injection moulding. Consecutively, delicate components, batteries and connectors can be moulded without concern. Here at Overmould, we are always keen to take on projects of various types, from wearable tech to agricultural or environmental use and aerospace. Whatever the industry, Overmould can create a product that can withstand what you need to throw at it. Low Pressure Moulding is the best way to encapsulate, protect and waterproof your electronics and products.

PCB functioning on motorways in Britain

This PCB is used to make intelligent traffic cones on motorways and clips to the orange flashing safety light battery. This allows the cones to talk to each other, inform central control when they are hit, out of line or scattered over the road. It was vital for it to be fully waterproof and IP rated to survive British winters.

Challenges and / or Expectations: Survival of the device inside an industrial wash cycle was a severe test for the final part. As a result of this the protection provided by Overmould exceeded expectations. This ultimately meant that the unit could be used many more times than the customer thought was possible.

PCB monitoring industrial washing machine

This clever PCB is used to monitor the performance of industrial washing machines and the detergents used in them. It contains a microprocessor, Lithium battery, an array of sensors, a charge coil and capable of remote communication via Bluetooth.
